Recipe Pub's trend scores are the composite of four independent data sources. Each is exposed in the API. None is fake; none is bought from a competitor.

Search demand

Source: DataForSEO Google Trends. Coverage: ~300 curated food keywords across 9 category buckets, refreshed weekly. What you get: raw volume (DataForSEO 0–100), week-over-week %, trailing 4-week baseline, and lift vs. baseline — the metric the trend engine actually uses.

Press coverage

Source: RSS from ~25 food-press outlets (Food Dive, Eater, Bon Appétit, Snaxshot, NRN, etc.) plus GDELT for international coverage. Coverage: every headline since November 2024, LLM-tagged for primary topic, entity type, sentiment, mentioned brands and ingredients, audience fit, time anchor. What you get: a structured news feed with the editorial fields that make headlines actionable, not just searchable.

First-party engagement

Source: Recipe Kit's own data. Recipe Kit is the Shopify recipe app used by leading specialty-food brands to publish recipe content on their stores. Coverage: what those brands are publishing, which ingredients they're leaning into, and how their recipes are converting — every week. What you get: the network contribution inside every trend score, plus top movers as supporting evidence. This is the unique layer; no competitor has it.

Frame: the data is aggregated and anonymized at the topic and category level. No individual brand's revenue, store, or customer data is exposed by Recipe Pub.

Risk signals

Source: openFDA Food Enforcement + USDA FSIS recall feeds, FRED + BLS commodity series. Coverage: every food recall since 2024, LLM-categorized by hazard and affected ingredient. ~30 commodity series (eggs, dairy, cocoa, coffee, beef, wheat, etc.) with mom/yoy/anomaly flags. What you get: a recall flag and commodity anomaly flag inside every trend score's top_evidence, plus standalone /v1/recalls and forthcoming /v1/commodities endpoints.
